How are pearls made?A: Pearls are created naturally inside the shells of certain mollusks, such as oysters and mussels. When an irritant like a grain of sand or a parasite gets trapped inside the mollusk's shell, the creature secretes layers of nacre around the irritant to protect itself. Over time, these layers build up to form a pearl. The process can take several years, and the resultant pearls can vary greatly in size, shape, and color.

Why isn't my pearl perfect? At Sunny Ruckus , we strive to offer exquisite, high-quality jewelry pieces, including pearls. Pearls are natural gemstones formed inside oysters as a reaction to an irritant, and their formation process inherently leads to slight variations and imperfections. These unique characteristics, such as minor blemishes, slight variations in shape, or subtle differences in luster, are actually indicators of authenticity and natural beauty. While we ensure that each piece of jewelry meets our rigorous quality standards, no two pearls are exactly alike, making each piece distinctively yours. Embracing these imperfections not only adds charm but also speaks to the natural origin and uniqueness of your jewelry, setting it apart from the rest. If you have any concerns about your pearl or wish to understand more about its distinctive features, we are here to provide insights and guidance.

Do you use naturally occurring or cultured pearls? At Sunny Ruckus , we use a mixture of naturally occurring and cultured pearls in our jewelry. Cultured pearls are created through a similar process as natural pearls, but with a little help from pearl farmers. A tiny bead or piece of tissue is intentionally inserted into the mollusk, which then coats the bead with layers of nacre, forming a pearl. This controlled method allows us to produce high-quality pearls with consistent shapes and sizes, while also ensuring that the cultivation process is sustainable and environmentally friendly. Our commitment to quality craftsmanship and ethical sourcing means that every piece of pearl jewelry from Sunny Ruckus is not only beautiful but also responsibly made.
